Having spent the entirety of Atton's class thinking dirty, dirty thoughts, Isabela had been inspired. A short detour to acquire a notebook and pen later, she was sprawled out on her bed, propping herself up on her elbows as she wrote.

Something about designing another self-righteous exercise to inflict on their students, or possibly just waxing his beard, he'd been paying more attention to eyes the colour of the Amaranthine than to his words. It was only after the door was closed that he slammed his fist against the table in frustration, if only he'd remove that stick from his arse! Then it could be replaced by something much better...

Please don't ask how Merrill had ended up in a janitorial storage room on the second floor. She couldn't tell you anyway. The point is, having just emerged from it was the reason she happened to be on the second floor right now.

Just because she hadn't been looking for anyone in particular didn't mean she wasn't going to poke her head through the door.

"So this is your room!"

Isabela was going to have to get her a ball of twine, possibly while making jokes about kittens and yarn. For now, though, she just marked her spot and closed the notebook before sitting up and grinning at Merrill.

"It is," she said, and patted the bed next to her in a far less flirtatious way than for just about anyone else. "Come in and sit down, kitten."

Everyone else in the dorms would just love that, wouldn't they?

"What are you doing?" asked Merrill; she came in as invited and somewhat hesitantly took a seat. "Are you reading something? Is it exciting?"

If they couldn't cope with a maze of twine, then they truly were hopeless.

Isabela turned to face Merrill. "Not reading so much as...you remember that conversation we had about the Ethics teachers, up on the roof?"

"We had a conversation about . . ." Merrill frowned, trying hard to remember. "Oh! If we thought they were going to kiss!"

Sure, that, she'd remember.

"You're writing about it then!"

Well, it was a very interesting topic.

"I am." Isabela nodded. "Since they don't seem likely to start doing it any time soon."

"Have they yet?" Merrill tucked her knees up under her chin and looked far too eager about this. "In what you're writing, I mean."

"Not yet," Isabela admitted, scratching the back of her head. "So far it's supposed to be pining, something interesting happens, kissing. I'm still stuck on the something interesting."

Planning, not always Isabela's strong suit.

"Their robes are so swishy. Maybe one of them could get caught on something, while a giant spider is trying to eat their heads," Merrill mused. "And the other one would have to come to the rescue!"

Isabela, you were the worst influence.

"One of the really big ones?" That could work. "And then the robes could get ripped while he was being freed."

Best, worst, what was the difference really?

"One of the house-sized ones!" Merrill was getting a little too into this. "That would be exciting."

No one ever said she had a normal definition of 'exciting.'

She considered this for a moment or two longer, humming to herself, then blurted out, "And if they had to take shelter somewhere, like a tiny little cave with barely enough room to move around . . ."

Creators help them if they ever discovered the existence of hurt-comfort fic.

Honestly, it was the subjects of the story who should really start worrying.

"That's my girl," Isabela said, grinning broadly.

Merrill laughed, apparently pleased to have been told she'd done something right.

"And then what?" She really wanted to know, okay? "Do you think they'd have to stay in the cave for a good long while?"

Dante. Bored. It was at this point an old refrain.

He stuck his head into this room because he'd recognized a certain head of brown hair. "Huh," he said. "You look into it."

Oh, if only there were something that could relieve his boredom.

Isabela tapped her lip with the pen and looked in his direction. "What's your opinion on sharing body heat?" Snowstorm, she was thinking trapped in a snowstorm, those were cold, right?

Dante squinted at her dubiously. "What, like cuddling?"

No, Dante, it was Cara who used that excuse.

"No, silly, I mean two strapping men, forced by the elements to huddle together, only thin layers of clothing between them, until a dam of passion bursts and they find an entirely different way to keep warm."

Okay, so no mushy stuff. Dante thought about it. "Yeah, sometimes that happens," he said, pushing into the room. "Why?"

Maker, no, even if she wanted that, she wouldn't go looking to Dante for it.

"They're refusing to admit they want each other," she said, glaring at the page. "Even after the giant spider ripped most of their clothes off."

Hence the snowstorm.

There was a very long pause.

Admittedly, that was partly because Dante was walking over to look at her work. "Are you writing porn?"

Reflexively Isabela tried to cover the page, the tutor had ensured her penmanship was good, but she was still more self-conscious than she'd ever admit about it.

"Yes," she replied without a trace of shame. "Or I would be if they'd just start tearing each other's clothes off."

Dante shrugged. "Well, have they killed the giant spider yet?" he said. "Seems like that'd bring the mood down." Beat. "Or maybe the spider's got sex poison or something."

"The spider blocked the way out when they killed it." That's what happened when the spider was as big as Merrill suggested. "It's why they had to take shelter where they are now."

"Sex poison?" Do go on, Dante.

"You know, you have those stories," by which he meant weird-ass porn he'd seen, "where somebody gets bitten or like, breathes some shit or whatever and suddenly they have to get laid."

Dante didn't generally understand why people needed all that lead-up, but some people were just fucking repressed.

By some minor miracle, Isabela hadn't actually gotten around to exploring the porn here yet, fear when she did.

"Oh that does sound intriguing." And very useful for her purposes. "And what happens then?"
